The Bell Howell Splash WP7 Camera is not a waterproof digital camera dream or some big time selling phenomenon. However, it is an economical model that takes acceptable photos and video. It has only one of the toughness features which is being waterproof up to 10 feet.
It is great to be taken to the pool, beach, fishing or any other place where there is water under 10 feet. It is not dustproof, cannot be dropped without the likelihood of being damage and it is not freezeproof. It is a camera under $60 that will capture your memories for you, but the quality of your images and video may not be up to par or meet your expectations.
This camera has a pretty good standing on Amazon coming in at number 24 with the Coleman Xtreme C5WP 12 MP 33ft Waterproof Digital Camera at number 23. Both have the same thing going for them, cheap cameras that you can get wet while taking your pictures and recording video.
I include the Coleman here because it has about the same ratings where the negative ratings are more than the positive, if you don’t add the three and four star ratings to the five. It is waterproof up to 33 feet, has a 2.7 inch LCD screen, 12MP resolution, 10 scene modes with anti-shake technology, Micro SD supports up to 8 GB and Self timer and smile shutter.
It too is a less expensive camera that is capable of producing acceptable photos and video. You just have to understand they will not be as clear and vibrant as the more expensive waterproof camera models. It will get the job done if you are just wanting to capture vacation memories without breaking the bank.

The Bell Howell Splash WP 7 Camera is popular because of it’s affordability and acceptable photo and video quality. It is low in features, by that I mean it is waterproof to 10 feet and it also has some of the basic features expected on a digital camera at this price point.
The ratings on this model is mixed. Most consumers rated the camera as an acceptable alternative to disposable waterproof cameras. Some users found the camera to be exceptional in quality especially when it came to shooting photos and video recordings.
Users that were not very pleased with the Splash had numerous issues with it including battery life, not being able view what is on the display due to reflection from the sun, not being able to take photographs inside and at times photos were blurry which also includes those taken with zoom.
One reviewer gave some pointers on how to best work the camera for better photos. For example, the reviewer states,
“First, take the film covers off both the front and back lenses for clear picture quality. Pictures are overall good to even excellent. You just need to get comfortable with how to take the pics with this camera. For instance, the flash is very strong. So when you use the flash for close pictures of one meter or less, everything will be whitewashed out. So what I do is take my flashlight and shine it obliquely and adjust it around so that I can take close ups and have the lighting not be too strong or weak. For me, the strong flash is nice in pitch black environments like attic and crawl spaces. It carries a long way.
This camera has a digital zoom, but it is of marginal quality as are many, most (all?) digital zooms. Otherwise, it has two settings: closeup and normal distance. Closeup is from several inches to about two feet and everything else is in the normal setting.”
There is not much information on this model which indicates it may be a good choice if you’re looking for something economical that can take reasonable looking photographs. However, it seems as though the quality of the output may depend on the user’s photography experience.
I would be hesitant to recommend this camera because the reviews on it are mixed. Additionally, the largest tech savvy websites passed on doing a review of the camera and not a large number of consumers purchased and rated the camera. This model is not only found on Amazon, but other websites that cater to bargain conscious consumers.
