Feature Descriptions For The Fujifilm Finepix XP30

14 Megapixel Resolution

For sheer image size, the XP30 is a great choice. At 14 megapixels, it can outperform other rugged cameras that normally have a 12 megapixel image resolution. Although higher resolution doesn’t necessarily mean improved picture quality, it does mean that images can be printed at larger sizes.

Four-Way Protection

The FinePix XP30 is perfect for active families on the go. Users can drop, soak, freeze or even cover it in dirt and mud. Not only is the XP30 waterproof up to 16.5 feet, but also shockproof up to 5 feet, freezeproof up to 14°F and dust proof.

2.7-inch LCD

The LCD is clear and easy to see even in bright conditions.

LED Lights

The bright LED lights the way in the dark.

Reinforced Glass Lens Cover

The FinePix XP30 is equipped with a strengthened glass lens cover that provides protection from outdoor activities and environment or inclement weather.

Folded Zoom Lens

The zoom lens is securely sheltered and protected from shock.

Shockproof Bumper

The shockproof bumper design on the XP30 shields the LCD from possible damage.

Anti-slip Rubber Grip

The FinePix XP30 has a rubber grip that allows users a firm grip on the condition in case they are involved in activities that could possibly cause damage to the camera.

 Built-in GPS

This allows users to tag photos automatically with geo-location details that assist in showing the location where the photo was taken.

“Natural + Flash” Mode

The “Natural + Flash” mode is a simple innovation which automatically takes one photo without flash and one with flash right one after another. This means that users can shoot images that closely resemble each other where one has flash and the other was shot using natural lighting.

 Easy Web Upload

Sharing photos online is like a daily activity. Fujifilm includes the Facebook/YouTube Automatic Upload feature that makes for quicker and easier modes of posting photos/videos on social networking sites.

HD Capability

The FinePix XP30 can record movies in 720p while using a one touch button. Users can also use the optional HD Player accessory kit, with wireless remote control that allows playback of movies and photos on HDTV.

Tracking Auto Focus (AF)

The AF function tracks fast moving subjects so they don’t escape from the frame in a blur.

Advanced Image Stabilization

The XP30 has a great Dual Image Stabilization (CIS) system. CIS works as the photo is being taken to combat camera/hand shake and subject movement for improved low light shooting. The result is being able to take photos without the need of a tripod or other support.

See what customers are saying about the Fujifilm FinePix XP30:

Customer JL Janda stated, “Amazing camera for the active. I purchased the XP30 to replace the last model after I ended up breaking it. The FinePix XP series is a fantastic camera. PROs

  • Buttons and shell of the camera feel very solid
  • Optical zoom and panorama option works well
  • The 14MP gives great detail for a reasonable amount of money
  • Love this camera for underwater pictures
  • This camera feels like it should be fragile, but you really can drop it, drown it, and use it in some extreme conditions
  • It is easy to operate the functions even through 3mm surfing gloves
  • One touch video function is good and users can zoom in & out while in video mode
  • The movie capture ability was actually pretty decent, video capture is very smooth

 CONs

  • Can’t see the pictures on the display screen in the sunlight
  • Battery life is short especially if using GPS. The battery could drain after about 30 minutes of use
  • GPS is not accurate and slow. Some location points were up to two miles off, at times it would take up to ten minutes or more to lock in on a location point. Also, when the camera is set to only use GPS when the camera is on, it appears to have a defect where the GPS runs continually which will consequently drain the battery.
  • The camera takes four to five seconds to start-up, while other waterproof digital cameras have instant on capability
  • Auto focus is extremely slow, often two or more seconds
  • Shutter lag after depressing the button is about two seconds
  • Camera photos are worst in low light conditions. Anything inside, even with full lighting, will be blurred.

The Fujifilm FinePix XP30 is one of the most economical best waterproof cameras on the market. However, it does have some issues concerning image quality, battery life, GPS and shutter lag. It is basically a camera for people who do not need the spectacular image and video quality and other features that add cost to an underwater digital camera.

Some consumers that own the XP30 reports the 5x optical zoom is fast and responsive, but makes some noises when moving.  The start-up time is fast on the Fujifilm FinePix XP30 at less than a second although you have to hold the power button down for longer than is normal on a digital compact camera. Focusing is also relatively fast.  However, the SP30 is not fast enough to capture action shots such basketball or soccer. Basically, the XP30 is a family camera for consumers that are on a budget and can’t afford the big name underwater digital cameras. This camera allows consumers to enjoy photos on their PC or be able to print the in small size. For those types of photos, the image quality is great.
