Many users describe the Panasonic Lumix TS25 as the go anywhere camera because it is compact, easy to carry everywhere with you. Plus, it has some nice features that are not that bad either. It is considered a tough camera that can shoot photos and HD video on land and underwater.
What I’ve noticed is that when people need an economical digital camera they can use during rigorous activities, inclement weather and in any type of terrain without having to worry about whether it will function in these types of environments and situations. It is another reason why you will see people leave their more expensive cameras home and also leave their smartphones in a secure dry place.
The price comparison of the two will give you a hint which one has the up to date features on it. If you’re like me, sometimes it gets hard to distinguish the Panasonic waterproof cameras from one another. For example, the TS5 is the more expensive of the two because it comes equipped with WiFi and GPS. The TS25 does not have either feature.
If you’re looking for a waterproof digital camera that will capture your memories and take half decent photos, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS25 may be for you. It has a 16.1MP CCD sensor, 4x optical zoom, 2.7 inch TFT LCD screen with 230k dot resolution and anti-reflective coating and records 720p HD Video.
It’s tough features include being waterproof to a depth of 23 feet (7 m), shock proof from a drop height of 5 feet (1.5 m), freeze proof to a temperature of 14ºF (-10ºC) and dust and sand proof. When dirty, the camera can be easily washed off with water.
The Panasonic TS25 also features Advanced Underwater Mode which compensates for the red colors often lost when shooting underwater providing more natural looking underwater images. In addition to the photograph mode, the TS25 contains a torch light that helps with recording videos in dusky underwater environments or at night. When not using it to record, it can be used as a flashlight to illuminate others or the area.

A 4x wide-angle optical zoom lens provides 35mm focal length equivalents of 25-100mm which ranges from wide-angle to telephoto. This feature will enhance photographing a group of people or shooting a large structure or landscape. The 4x optical zoom is capable of extending to an 8x zoom equivalent.
Waterproof and Tough Features
The TS25 is labeled as rugged and waterproof for active lifestyles. It is waterproof to a depth of 23 feet (7 m), shockproof from a drop height of 5 feet (1.5 m), freezeproof to a temperature of 14ºF (-10ºC) and dust proof to the IP6X standard.
720p HD Video with Dedicated One-touch Button
Video recording can be easily started with the press of the Motion Picture Button making it convenient for switching between photo and video shooting instantly. The Panasonic TS25 can record in 720p HD at 30 frames per second in the MP4 format. It allows users to record up to 100 minutes of continuous high-definition MP4 video clips in 1280 x 720 resolution or in 640 x 480 resolution.
Optical Image Stabilization (MEGA O.I.S.MEGA)
O.I.S decreases blur from the effects of handshake and vibration in both photo and video mode. It works effectively when in wide-angle settings or when shooting moving subjects.
Advanced Underwater Mode
The new underwater red color reproduction feature allows users to capture underwater colors as they are experienced. This feature eliminates dull, gray colors that is often associated with underwater pictures. It helps in creating photos and video that look more realistic and natural.
Time Lapse and Burst Shooting
Another neat feature of the Lumix TS25 is that if you have ever wanted to capture a flower blooming, or clouds floating across the sky, the Time Lapse Shot feature provides you the ability to set the start time, interval for taking the images, and the number of pictures to shoot. Once that is set, the camera will automatically record the images without you being present. The TS25 also has high-speed continuous shooting of up to 8 frames per second. At full resolution you can burst shoot at 1.3 frames per second.
The Panasonic TS25 comes with a torch light used to illuminate videos shot underwater or at night. It can also be used as a flashlight when not shooting video.
Most consumer agree that the Panasonic Lumix TS25 takes good pictures and video recordings are nice and clear. Although some consumers have complained that images suffer a bit during low light conditions. Most refer to the price since this is an older model which is selling at a pretty good price for what you get. Panasonic makes some really nice cameras, especially their rugged and tough cameras. You may find a few consumers that are not pleased with the performance as far as leakage or damage, low quality photos or videos, but again it depends on what you are accustomed to in what you expect from a digital camera.
The Panasonic TS25 can be taken anywhere and tossed around without having to worry about whether it will be damaged because of handling or weather. Consumers not only use it for their active lifestyles and weather conditions, but also allow their kids (some as young as nine years old) to have access to it. As you can see, the TS25 is user friendly for kids and adults alike.
All the reviews for the Lumix TS25 are not great. Some users have complained that it leaked, stop functioning after a couple of days or was damaged in a fall within the drop distance. It is a small number of people versus those that have fallen in love with the camera. In my opinion, with these waterproof cameras, it is all in the features, the color of the camera, manufacturer and most importantly, the price. It appears most of these type of specialty point and shoot cameras perform about the same. In my research of the TS25 and other models, I have not found an overall excellent rating for these waterproof cameras, despite the manufacturer. As one consumer put it, “I would say that over 95 percent of the images are keepers that I can print, although not perfect.” These cameras usually have a three to four performance rating, but nothing in terms of features or performance that has just been a wow factor for consumers. - Fantastic camera for the price
- Great pictures in and out of water
- No fogging of lens when using underwater
- Compact and stylish
- LED video light
- 23 feet depth rating
- Only 720p video
- Not as much grip as some waterproof cameras due to size
- No lens cover; have to clean when removing from pocket
- Taking photos in sun may cause glare-streak on photo
- Intelligent zoom does not work very well, photos a bit grainy, especially in low light and underwater
- Misleading to label as 8X zoom, not a true optical zoom
- Photo clarity not the best
For the price, you can’t beat the quality of the Panasonic TS25. It is considered the budget entry waterproof digital camera offering from Panasonic. It is rugged, waterproof, compact and flexible for those who live and like to capture moments of their active lifestyle. The TS25 is easy to use, produces vibrant colors, underwater features are great to use and it’s tough enough for kids. It takes good photos and video in and out of water. It is a rugged camera that can survive being dropped (snow, water, mud, sand, and even concrete) from less than 5 feet. However, if you want more features including WiFi and GPS for geo-tagging, you should consider the Panasonic TS5. Checkout my review of the TS5 here.
