Panasonic TS 4 Technical Details

2.7-inch LCD with AR Coating: features 230K-dot Intelligent LCD with wide-viewing angle that automatically adjusts brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. Additionally, the AR (anti-reflective) coating on the LCD minimizes glare and provides clear images, for high visibility even in outdoor brightness.

Manual Exposure: The TS4 provides easy-to-use manual controls. Users can set the aperture to control the depth of field, and adjust the shutter speed to freeze moving subjects or create a motion blur that increases the feeling of movement.

AF Tracking System:  The AF Tracking automatically tracks the subject you are shooting until you press the shutter. When you’re taking images of an active subject, like children or pets, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus. It’s all done by design.

Rugged Design and Tough: The TS4 is touted as being waterproof to 40 feet, shockproof from 6.6 feet, freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit and dustproof. Users can take this camera anywhere because of its design it can withstand a lot of harsh treatment.

GPS Function: The LUMIX GPS shows latitudes and longitudes, plus area information that covers 203 countries or regions and the landmark information of over 1,000,000 locations in 82 countries or regions.

Quad Indicator: The camera is designed for active outdoor use. It adopts GPS, compass, altimeter and even barometer to show and record altitude, barometric pressure and orientation data. The barometer also works to indicate the underwater depth.

LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology: The TS4 features a high-quality LEICA DC lens with 4.6x optical zoom to 28mm wide-angle. This lens unit assures users of exceptional optical performance to the edges.

Power O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer): This feature suppresses vibration hand-shake when the shutter button is pushed or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed.

12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD:  Improves image quality and HD video recording for operations that require high performance and speed especially for continuous shooting.

1920 x 1080 Full HD Video:  Provides option to record video in MPEG-4 and MP4 format. The MPEG-4 format can be played on AV equipment such as, HDTVs or DVD players. The MP4 format is compatible with PCs and tablets. There is also a special, dedicated button that allows users to instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to perform any extra settings. HDMI cable is not included with camera.

Sonic Speed AF: This feature along with a quick start up allows users to be able to shoot action shots with accuracy and speed. You will have a hard time missing the action with the TS4.

iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode: In this mode, the camera does all the work by automatically selecting the most appropriate settings to take high-quality photos. Because of this technology, it allows users the freedom to compose their photos and capture video recordings.

Auto Retouch function: With a press of a button, the camera can adjust contrast and brightness to modify the look of the photo. Appropriate retouching is automatically applied depending on the image – if the image was shot too dark, it can be made to look clear and bright.

LED Light: The LED light helps with recording video in dim underwater environments or at nighttime. A convenient auto function also automatically turns on the LED when the ambient light becomes dim.

Panasonic LUMIX TS3 versus the TS4

GPS System: The most significant difference between the two models is the addition of the built-in GPS System which has been upgraded and enhanced. For geo-tagging, the GPS System includes a barometer log, compass, and altimeter that can be stored on photographs. The camera can also provide a weather report if needed. There is also a DVD included that users can upload maps to over a million landmarks and 82 countries / regions. Geo-tagged images are automatically sorted and be played back along a map so that users can trace their photographic journey.

Manual Controls: The TS4 offers full manual mode that the TS3 did not have. Users can now directly adjust shutter speed and aperture to closely control shots.

Sharper images:Although, the TS4 and the TS3 share the same sensor, software tweaks makes the TS4 capable of producing slightly sharper pictures. This is just a software change, but it can be cancelled by adjusting the picture settings in the menu.

New Shooting Modes: The TS4 also comes with some new shooting modes, which includes:  Time Lapse Shot, Miniature Effect, and Panorama Shot.

Should You Purchase The Panasonic LUMIX DMC TS4?

making minor improvements to the TS3’s already winning formula to help keep abreast of current technology without changing what makes the camera great. However, current TS3 owners may not find much of a reason to upgrade.

The TS4 is considered one of the best waterproof cameras because of its full-featured rugged design and upgrade from its predecessor, the TS3. Consumers that purchased the TS4 are impressed with image and video quality, GPS system and manual operation capability. It appears the positive features of the TS4 outweigh the minor annoyances reported by users. Some of the CONs reported are provided with the understanding that some of their findings are typical of other waterproof cameras.

There is no question that the Panasonic TS4 is as good as or better than the TS3. The exterior design of both cameras has not changed much. However, if you like the camera’s upgraded features for your underwater photo and video needs then the TS4 is the camera for you. If you don’t need the extra features, but still want quality photo and video then you may want to consider the TS3. The TS3 is still considered one of the best waterproof cameras for your money.   Checkout the current price and availability of the Panasonic Lumix DMC TS4 waterproof camera.  Click this link to take advantage of this huge discount!
